The Fort Qu'Appelle area has been glaciated several times. Last time round, vast amounts of till were thrust ahead of the advancing glacier just south of Fort Qu'Appelle. When this ice-till mixture melted, "kettles" formed where blocks of ice settled out of the till. Now they are simply sloughs, and farmers enjoy navigating around them.
